Getting UT/ST Zeropoint by Alternate Means.
You can get the Sidereal Time in Greenwhich (Longitude = 0) at UT
= 0 hours from the Astronomical Almanac.
- Find the Almanac for the year in question.
- Look in Section B (Universal and Sidereal Times).
- Find the row with the date (UT date!) of your
observations.
- Copy the ST from the columns marked G. Sidereal Time
(Apparent).
- At UT = 0 hours, compute the LST at BGSU from the following
equation:
LST(BGSU) = ST(Greenwhich) - 5h 35m 31s
The amount subtracted is the Longitude of BGSU expressed in
hours:min:sec (Longitude of BGSU = 83 deg 37' 48" West).
- While you have the Almanac open to this page, you might also
write down the Julian date, just to confirm that IRAF etc were
able to compute it correctly.
