Experiment 18
YOUNG'S MODULUS
ANALYSIS

1.  Use equation (4) below to evaluate the Young's Modulus for each one of the different materials studied, and record the results in cells B20:F20 on the Worksheet.

(4)

2.  Do an error propagation analysis to relate the percent error in determining Young's Modulus in terms of the percent errors in: diameter, length, mass and frequency. Record this relation in the text box at cell A22.

3.  Calculate the percent error in Young's Modulus determination using the estimated uncertainties recorded with each measurement of diameter, length, mass and frequency. Record the value for each material in cells B30:F30.

4.  Compare the Modulus values for the different materials. Which one is most elastic? Which one is least elastic? Do these results agree with your common perceptions?
