ELECTRICAL MEASUREMENTS
WITH DIRECT CURRENT
PROCEDURE
Open the Worksheet and fill
in the header information.
For each circuit below, draw a diagram in the space provided. Include your measurements in the spaces indicated on the Worksheet.
ELECTROMOTIVE FORCE AND POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE
1. Connect a voltmeter across a dry cell battery, with the
positive lead touching
the positive (+) terminal of the battery. Measure and record the voltage
in cell D11 on the Worksheet. Reverse the lead connections;
repeat the measurements and record in cell D12. Connect two dry
cells in series as shown in Fig. 2.05-5. Measure and record the
voltage across the combination, and record in cell D14. Reconnect
the dry cells in opposition as shown in Fig. 2.05-6; repeat the
measurement and record in cell D15 on the Worksheet.
2. Create a circuit made up of a battery, knife-switch and light bulb in series as shown in Fig. 2.05-7. With the switch open, measure and record the voltage across each component of the circuit, and record in cells D19:D21; then close the switch and repeat the measurements and place the values in cells D24:D26.
3. Hook up two light bulbs in series as shown in
Fig. 2.05-8 and connect them to the battery. Measure and record
the voltage across the battery and across each bulb. Record the
values in cells D30:D32.
4. Create a circuit composed of a dry cell, a switch, and two light bulbs in parallel as shown in Fig. 5-9. With the switch closed, measure the current in each leg of this circuit, and record in cells D35:D37.

5. Hook up the circuit shown in Fig. 5-10 using three
light bulbs; measure the current in each leg of the circuit
and the voltage across each element. Record these values as
indicated in cells D40:D45.

6. Change the connection to that shown in Fig. 5-11
and again measure the current in each leg and the voltage across each
element. Be sure to record the voltage across the battery. Record these
values as indicated in cells D48:D54.

report.
