Experiment 10
UNIFORM CIRCULAR MOTION

ANALYSIS

1.  For each trial, use the period and radius data to calculate the uniform speed of the bob v, using equation (5) from the introduction, reproduced below:

Enter the speed results for each trial in cells E25, E46, E67 and E87, respectively. Also enter the estimated measurement error in these values in cells G25, G46, G67 and G87, respectively.

2.  Use equation (4) to calculate the centripetal force for each trial (remember, the mass used here is the mass of the bob):

Express Fc in newtons, and enter the results for each trial in cells E27, E48, E69 and E89, respectively.

3.  Determine what the measurement error is in this value and enter the results in cells G27, G48, G69 and G89, respectively.

4.  For each trial, calculate the percentage difference between the calculated value of the centripetal force in step 2 above and the force measured with the static procedure. Enter the results as the percentage error for each trial in cells E29, E50, E71 and E91, respectively.

5.  Answer Questions 1 and 2 on the Worksheet.
