Experiment 09

ARCHIMEDES' PRINCIPLE

PROCEDURE

1.    Open up the Archimedes Workbook and fill in the header information.

2.    Measure the length and diameter in meters of each cylinder provided, and enter the data in cells C10:D14 on the Worksheet .

3.    Determine the volume of the rock using the displacement method with the graduated cylinder and enter the value in cell E15. Don't forget to convert to units of m3 for the volume.

4.    Determine the weight of each of the objects provided while suspended in air, Wo, and also while suspended in water, W1. Refer to Figure 09-1 for an illustration of how this is done. Enter the data in cells C22:D27 of the Worksheet .

5.    Determine the weight of each of the cylinders when suspended in the mystery solution, W2, and enter in cells E41:E45 of the Worksheet.
