Experiment 12
PROPERTIES OF SOUND

ANALYSIS

1.    For the tuning fork data, take the difference between the ending and the beginning times and divide by the number of cycles to obtain the period. Record the value in cell G15.

2.    Take the reciprocal of the period and enter the value as the frequency in cell G19.

3.    Compare the calculated value with the fundamental obtained from the FFT analysis. Determine the percentage error and enter the value in cell G20.

4.    Answer Question 1 on the Worksheet.

5.    For data on the bell, take the difference between the ending and the beginning times and divide by the number of cycles to obtain the period. Record the value in cell G38.

6.    Take the reciprocal of the period and enter the value as the frequency in cell G42.

7.    Compare the calculated value with the fundamental obtained from the FFT analysis. Determine the % error and enter the value in cell G43.

8.    Answer Question 2 on the Worksheet.

9.    Calculate the period for the most sinusoidal vowel sound using the data in cells B56:D56. Record this value in cell E56.

10.    Calculate the frequency for the "long a" sound from the period, and record the value in cell E60.

11.    Calculate the period for the "long a" sound using the data in cells B64:D64, and record the value in cell E64.

12.    Calculate the frequency for the "long a" sound from the period, and record the value in cell E66.

13.    Answer Question 3 on the Worksheet.

        14.    Verify that the graphs are pasted on the Worksheet and that Question 4 is completed.
