PHYS 6810 -- Seminar in Physics
Please send a title and abstract of your talk to Andy one week before your seminar date.
Length of Talks: 20-25 min presentation with 5-10 min for questions.
Choosing a Seminar Topic:
- The following suggestions may help you choose an appropriate topic for your seminar:
- Fall first-year students: report on previous (undergraduate?) research, or choose an interesting article in a field you would like to study.
- Spring first-year students: chose an article that helps you investigate a thesis topic or field (you will choose your thesis topic this term or, at latest, over the summer).
- Fall second-year students: provide a progress report on your thesis research -- background reading, experimental design, early results, etc.
- Spring second-year students: provide a report on your thesis research, which should be approaching completion.
- Articles should not be taken from popular literature; use refereed science jounals like Physical Reviews, Astrophysical Journal, Nature, etc, or at minimum Science.
Grades will be S/U (satisfactory/unsatisfactory) based on quality of your talk, your attendance at talks, and the number and quality of questions you ask during other talks.
- Note: all students are required to attend any joint colloquia held at Univ. of Toledo (if any)
- try to arrange transportation with other BGSU students
- contact Andy Layden ASAP if you still need a ride
